Position Description
Member of the care delivery team that encompasses the overall care of adults presenting to an ambulatory setting with gastroenterology associated health needs. Assumes responsibility and accountability for patients over a designated time frame and provides care to these patients through the therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. Provides nursing care which include assessing patients, administering medications & vaccinations, coordinating tests & further consultations, and providing scheduling of procedures, providing education & follow up information to patients and families as appropriate. All care provided will be with consideration of patients physical and emotional needs.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- 1 year Experience in a clinic setting. Preferred

- Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution.
- Demonstrates awareness and application of safety issues as identified within the institution.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and departmental functioning. Strives to manage situations in a manner, which minimizes risk to the patient and the institution.
- Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
- Basic Life Support - BLS RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department. Must have within 90 days of hire.
What you will do
- Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or situation & develops a collaborative plan encompassing strategies to achieve the expected outcomes.
- Observes, records, and reports patient's conditions, concerns, and results accurately to physicians. Efficiently documents information using the appropriate forms and/or electronic applications.
- Triages and refers incoming telephone calls by collecting pertinent data and information relative to the patient, situation, or setting and analyzes data to determine actual or potential problems, and issues.
- Implements identified plan through coordination of care and employs strategies to promote health and wellness. Instructs patient and or family on plan of care, results of tests, and ongoing plan of care.
- Evaluates progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes.
- Mentors nurses new to their role for the purpose of ensuring successful enculturation, orientation, competence, and emotional support. Supports students to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect.
- Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and supports the effectiveness of professional relationships and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice. Collaborates with nursing research team as needed for continuity of patient care.
- Practices Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles in their daily work by respecting others' uniqueness, perspectives, backgrounds or beliefs. Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings.
- Participates actively in clinical education activities, including orientation of new employees and teaching student nurses. Participates in nursing research activities.
- Participates in development and attainment of system wide/department hospital goals. Participates in intra- and inter-departmental committees and or quality improvement activities as required. Adheres to employee staffing and scheduling guidelines at all times.
- Responsible for quality of care given by self. Responsible for understanding and showing respect for patients' rights including confidentiality of patient information.
- Delegates tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and department activities in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse Practice Act. Communicates effectively in all areas of professional practice.
- Demonstrates willingness to participate and lead nursing practice in process evolution the scope of the Stormont Vail Health professional practice model. Commits to lifelong learning through critical thinking, self-reflection, and inquiry for personal growth and development.
- Utilizes appropriate resources to plan, provide, and sustain evidence-based nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible, and used judiciously.
